Prepare your drums for recycling

Five simple steps to prepare your drums for recycling

Properly rinsing your chemical drums ensures they are safe for recycling and meet drumMUSTER’s collection standards. By following these simple steps, you can reduce risks on your farm, protect the environment, meet Quality Assurance Program requirements, and ensure your drums are accepted at drumMUSTER collection sites.

Step 1: Rinse immediately

  • After using your chemical drum, rinse it with clean water right away.

  • If using a chemical rinsing bin, hold the drum on the spigot until the water runs clear.

  • If pressure rinsing, continue until all residue is gone.

Step 2: Return rinse water to the spray tank

  • Pour the rinse water back into your spray tank for reuse.

  • Check the drum inside and out for any residue.

  • If residue is present, rinse again until it is completely clean.

Step 3: Remove lids and metal handles

  • Remove all lids and metal handles from buckets.

  • Allow the drums to dry completely before storage.

Step 4: Store drums correctly

  • Keep your drums in a dry, secure location to prevent contamination.

  • This ensures they remain clean and ready for drop-off.

Step 5: Deliver to a collection site

  • Take your prepared drums to your nearest drumMUSTER collection site.

  • Find a collection site near you using the drumMUSTER website.

Remember: Only clean, residue-free drums will be accepted for recycling!
