Major Hazard Facility Calculator

This calculator provides information to assist Agsafe members premises that are, or are likely to become, major hazard facilities (MHF) to meet their obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act (the WHS Act) and the Work Health and Safety Regulations (the WHS Regulations) with respect to the processes for notification and determination of a MHF.

The WHS Regulations require operators of facilities or proposed facilities to notify the regulator of Schedule 15 chemicals that are present or likely to be present at the facility. The regulator will then make a determination as to whether the facility is a MHF.

This tool has been designed to calculate the active constituent quantities of Toxic and Very Toxic chemical products commonly stored in Agsafe member warehouses. Premises storing >10% of the Major Hazard Facility threshold, using the method detailed in Safe Work Australia’s Guide for Major Hazard Facilities Notification and Determination need to notify the regulator in all states and territories (except Western Australia and Victoria).

Agsafe has been advised by NSW Regulators that a change in methodology for calculating MHF thresholds is being considered. Should such a change in methodology be implemented thresholds calculated using this MHF calculator may not be applicable when determining MHF notification obligations. The Agsafe Industry Standard and current Regulations require NSW premises to notify as MHF or potential MHF based on the current methodology (as calculated by the Agsafe MHF calculator) pending future changes.

Please note: Not all AgVet chemical products are classified as Toxic or Very Toxic (as listed in Schedule 15).
