Responsibly dispose of agricultural plastic bags
bagMUSTER is dedicated to the responsible collection and recycling of agricultural single-use plastic bags. Our mission is to significantly reduce the environmental impact of plastic waste on farms while advancing sustainable practices within the agricultural sector. Agricultural plastic waste, especially single-use polypropylene (PP) bags, poses a major challenge to the environment. These bags, often used for products like fertiliser, seed, grain, stock feed, and pet food, accumulate on farms, leading to soil pollution, contamination of waterways, and damage to ecosystems.
bagMUSTER provides a practical, industry-led solution that allows farmers and growers to drop off these used plastic bags. This ensures they are collected and responsibly recycled, preventing them from entering landfills or causing further environmental harm. Our commitment to recycling is rooted in the principle of moving towards a circular economy, where agricultural plastic is reused and repurposed, significantly reducing waste and preserving natural resources.
How the program works
Participating in bagMUSTER is straightforward and designed to make the recycling process easy and accessible for farmers and growers across Australia. Here’s how it works.
Purchase bags
Growers and farmers purchase polypropylene bags from participating retailers. Only bags sold through approved retailers are eligible for recycling through bagMUSTER.
Register bags
Register the bags you wish to recycle. Registration is an essential step that allows for proper tracking and reporting of the bags’ lifecycle. The process provides compliance certificates that help end-users with their QA programs.
Collect and store
After using the contents of the bags, participants should collect and store the empty bags until they are ready to recycle. Bags should be kept dry and stored in a sheltered area to prevent contamination by mud, water, or other materials.
Drop off
Take your registered bags to your nearest bagMUSTER collection site. Upon arrival, present your registration confirmation to complete the process.
Prepare bags
Before recycling, ensure all bags are clean, empty, and free of non-PP liners. Bags should be shaken out, liners removed, and neatly folded, rolled, or baled to make them easier to handle.
Processed and recycled
The bags are then sent for recycling, ensuring that they are responsibly processed and repurposed into new products.
